Petition for freedom in the general Court

Petitioners Interrogatories to Elizabeth Carry (on oath) aged about sixty nine years, viz'.

1st Do you know the parties in this Suit, and how long have you known them?

Answers: I know them and have known them for these eight or ten years past.

2nd Do you know Judah the mother of the petitioner, and how long have you known her?

Answer, I know Judah the mother of the petitioner and have known her between twenty & thirty years.

3rd Do you know Sophia the grand-mother of the petitioner and how long have you known her?

Answer, I know Sophia the grand-mother of the petitioner and have known her between thirty & forty years.

4th Do you know Elizabeth commonly called Betty Mingo, the great-grand-mother of the petitioners, and when; and do you know that the said Betty was the Daughter of a white woman?

Answer, I knew Betty Mingo great grandmother of the petitioner about forty years ago; but I do not know whether she was Daughter of a white woman of my own knowledge

5th: Do you know, or have you been informed, and by whom, that the petitioner or any of his ancestors are descended from a white woman?

Answer, I have been informed by the petitioners ancestors that his great-grandmother Betty Mingo's was the Daughter of a white woman.

6th have you any further knowledge of the subject?

Answer, I have no further knowledge of the matter only from common hearsay.

Charles County Sct. October 13th 1794 then appeared before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for said County and made oath on the holy Evangels of Almighty God, that the answers annexed to these several Interrogatories were Just and True to the best of her knowledge.
