To the Honorable the Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Washington.

The Petition of Sarah Stewart humbly sheweth That she is free and is held in bondage and claimed as a slave by James C. McGuire administrator with the will annexed of John P Todd late of the County aforesaid deceased, and she prays that her right to freedom may be fully enquired of by your Honors according to law.
