The Petition of Samuel Stacy humbly represents

That he is a free man of color, having become legally and equitably entitled to his freedom, as he is prepared to shew.

That nevertheless one James Knox claims to hold him as a slave: Wherefore he prays subp against the said James Knox, and that Judgment may be rendered establishing the freedom of your petitioner: & he will ever pray &
