To the Marshal of the District of Columbia, Greeting:</p>

<p>We command you that you <del>take</del> summon Elizabeth Cocke &amp; Peter E Hoffman late of Washington County, if they shall be found within the County of Washington in your said District, <del>and safely keep,</del> so that <del>you</del> that they be &amp; appear <del>have bod</del> before the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia, to be held for the County aforesaid, at the City of Washington, on the third Monday of October next, to answer unto the Petition of Winney Cryer &amp; Turner Cryer for their freedom filed in the said Court</p>

<p>Hereof fail not, at your peril, and have you then and there this writ.</p>

<p>Witness Wm Cranch Esquire, Chief Judge of our said Court, at the City of Washington, the 7th day of June Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred and forty seven</p>

<p>Issued the 26d day of June 1847.</p>
