To the Honorable, the Judges of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia for the County of Washington.
The Petition of Robert Brown humbly shewth unto your Honors that he is now held in unlawful slavery by Dolly Mullin and that he is now confined in the Jail of the County and District aforesaid. Therefore your petitioner, the said Robert, prays your Honors to inquire into the same and afford him such relief as the nature of his case and Justice and equity require, and as in duty bound your petitioner will ever pray and so forth.
