<p>To all whom it may concern, be it known, that I Gerard Gibson of the County of Washington District of Columbia, for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving, as also in further consideration of One Dollar current money, to me in hand paid, have released from slavery, liberated, manumitted and set free, and by these presents do hereby release from slavery, liberate, manumit and set free, my negro woman named Phillis Clagett being of the Age of thirty six years, and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance likewise Truman Clagett and Mary Clagett Children of the said Phillis and them the said Negroes named Phillis Clagett Truman Clagett and Mary Clagett I do declare that after my Decease from that time to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged, from all manner of servitude or service to my executors or administrators, forever.</p>

<p>In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 31st Day of October in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand eight Hundred and twenty six</p>

<p>On this 31st day of October 1826 personally appears Gerard Gibson party to the within instrument of writing, before me the subscriber, A Justice of the Peace of the District of Columbia for the said county and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned and the Negroes within named to be after his decease manumitted and discharged from all services to any claiming under him</p>
