<p>The petition of John Battles humbly sheweth that he is entitled to his freedom and is unjustly &amp; illegally held in bondage by one Thomas Miller who holds your <del>&amp; claims your</del> petitioner and (as he believes &amp; is informed) means to sell him as a slave. Whereon he prays your honors that a subpona may be issued to the said Thomas Miller directed that he may appear and answer hereto, and that your petitioner may be discharged from his service, and obtain such relief in the premises as your honors may seem right.</p>
